WATCH – Dayglow’s “Nicknames” + Fuzzybrain Re-Release

November 14th, 2019

Dayglow is now gearing up for a re-release of Fuzzybrain, a more fully realized version featuring two new tracks: “Nicknames” (a bold and bouncy number he perceives as a counterpart to “Hot Rod”) and “Listerine” (an undeniably potent track fueled by Struble’s confident vocal flow and flashes of jagged guitar work). “Both those songs were written around the same time as the rest of the album and very much exist in the Fuzzybrain universe,” he says. “Each is deeply intertwined into the conceptual universe and purpose of Fuzzybrain, and it just wouldn’t feel right releasing them in a separate body of work.”

Gracefully threaded throughout the album, the optimism of Fuzzybrain is both hard-won and palpably sincere. Originally from Aledo, Texas—a Fort Worth suburb he refers to as a “small, football-crazed town”—Struble felt irrevocably out of place for most of his adolescence, eventually turning to music as a purposeful escape from his surroundings. As his audience widens to include fans around the world, Dayglow pushes forward with a mission of making music that strengthens hope, promotes peace, and—in an especially important turn for Struble—fosters a powerful sense of community.

WATCH – Sudan Archives “Confessions” Video

November 14th, 2019

Experimental producer and violinist Sudan Archives has unveiled the video for her new single, ‘Confessions’. The video is “a female flip on classic rap music videos”, the LA artist explains in a press release. “Resilient women surviving in a world that seems to be falling apart & ends with its alter ego Black Vivaldi, an ode to duality”.

The last section of the video provides a glimpse of the next single, ‘Black Vivaldi Sonata’. “It’s about being the seduced and the seductress, it’s about God & the Devil, Yin & Yang, & about the possibility that we might have it all wrong about the two,” she continues.

‘Confessions’ and ‘Black Vivaldi Sonata’ are featured on Sudan Archives’ debut album, Athena, which is out November 1 on Stones Throw. Athena follows Sudan Archive EPs Sudan Archives and The Sink. – Read More via Fact

LISTEN – Wye Oak “Fortune” + JOIN Tour

November 12th, 2019

Wye Oak share bombastic new single “Fortune” and 2020 JOIN tour dates. Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack returned to the studio in the summer of 2019, and the result is the most generous and daring material of the duo’s career. The first look into this new music is the searing single “Fortune,” about which Wasner says: “Life is change. Change is loss. This song is about how hard it is to let go, and the feeling of celebrating and mourning it all at once.”

Living in the same city (their adopted home of Durham, NC) for the first time since 2012 has given Wasner and Stack the opportunity to chart a new path, and to re-examine and rework the pre-existing confines of their long-standing musical partnership. In addition to releasing new material, the group is mounting their most ambitious tour yet. Called JOIN, the tour will feature a newly expanded live band performing Wye Oak’s music and songs from Stack and Wasner’s respective solo projects, Joyero and Flock of Dimes, and beyond.

OUT NOW – Brother Ali + Evidence Album + US Tour

November 5th, 2019

Secrets & Escapes is a compendium of Brother Ali’s time spent with Evidence, over the course of three trips to California. Evidence chopped up records on old-school samplers and ran them through a compressor (2 track) so they couldn’t be re-arranged or mixed. Brother Ali sat with the mic and spit rhymes as they came to him, without writing or organizing them into songs. Ev smoked a lot of weed, Ali prayed extensively, and their influences on each other can be heard in the recordings. Any time they made something that reminded them of what they’ve become known for, they threw it away and started something new. Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch and CS Armstrong came through to bless the project with contributions, too. Secrets & Escapes is the result of two friends making rap music for no other reason than because it’s what they love to do. LISTEN HERE!

This coming winter, Poliça will release their fourth album When We Stay Alive. It’ll be the Minnesota band’s first project since frontwoman Channy Leaneagh fell off her roof at the top of 2018, an accident that damaged her L1 vertebrae and left her with limited mobility. As a result, the project will magnify her healing process with songs about self reevaluation. The first is “Driving,” a hazy track that works its way from a queasy mirage into a healthy groove. – READ MORE VIA FADER
